So jetzt geht es also los.
Noch Ende diesen Jahres werden die Arbeiten an der Creek Extension weitergehen. Der Business Bay Canal soll die Shaikh Zayed Road "ueber-" queren und ueber Safa-Park, Al Wasl, Jumeirah 2 und dem Jumeirah Beach Park wieder in den Arabischen Golf fuehren. Damit eingeschlossen sind auch Kanaele, die durch das neue Gebiet Jumeirah Garden City fuehren.

Nur 800 m der Sheikh Zayed Road sollen davon betroffen sein.

Versprochen sind Gruenanlagen (natuerlich!), Fahrradwege und Jogging-Tracks und andere Sportangebote an beiden Seiten des Kanals.

SZR Goes Over The Top
Sheikh Zayed Road is set for massive upheaval, as the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) yesterday announced plans for a new canal to intersect it from the Arabian Gulf.
The proposed Business Bay Canal will cross Sheikh Zayed Road at the Safa Interchange and will go through Safa Park, Al-Wasl Road, Jumeirah 2, and Jumeirah Road before reaching the Arabian Gulf.
The 2.2 kilometre canal will cost dhs758 million and should be completed in 2010; but the ambitious project will mean huge changes to Dubai’s main thoroughfares.
Bridges carrying Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Wasl Road and Jumeirah Road will have to be built in order to allow access for boats and other water-borne traffic.
Matar Al-Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the RTA said it is one of the most important projects taken on by the RTA in recent times.
“The paths of affected roads will be amended to ensure free integrated traffic flow between the two banks of the new canal. Only 800 metres of Sheikh Zayed Road will be affected because of the project,” said Al Tayer.
The project also involves diverting the existing utility lines and lighting works impacted by the course of the canal.
“The RTA will introduce several improvements to the network of roads intersecting this canal. Some improvements will also be made in surrounding areas such as Jumeirah and Safa, including construction of service roads at both sides of the canal to ease mobility between those areas,” he said.
The authority is constructing four footbridges above the water canal for free and safe pedestrian mobility in addition to footpaths in all the new bridges.
There will also be purpose-built tracks to enable practicing light sports such as jogging and cycling along both sides of the canal.
Landscaping of both sides of the canal, including greenery, seating places and public rest areas will be included.

ich find das projekt super...da hab ich endlich einmal ne baustelle vor der tür :maddin:
und später einen kanal wo ich allen die vorbeifahren auf den kaffetisch schauen kann...wie im zoo eben --- nur andersrum :mad:

also in der Zeitung ist es so abgedruckt...das der Kanal unten drunter lang soll..und nicht drüber...so erkenne ich jedenfalls die Zeichnung. oder haben wir unterschiedliche Zeitungen? :/

Wird wohl 'drunter her gehen. Schleusen werden sie wohl nicht einbauen wollen.
