The historic Qasr Al Hosn Palace, or White Fort, lies next to Abu Dhabi’s Cultural Foundation. Built in 1761, the palace was the official residence of the ruling Al Nahyan family until 1966. A view of this centuries-old structure provides a glimpse at the ruling family’s history and traditions. Entrance is free but presently there are no visitor guides.

Abu Dhabi's Falcon Hospital clinches global tourism award

Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital (ADFH) has won the 34th International Award for the Tourist, Hotel and Catering Industry (New Millennium Award) for its excellent tourism programme.

The ADFH is the first public Falcon Hospital in the UAE. It opened its doors in October 1999 and recorded patient arrivals of more than 31,500 in the first nine years of existence.

In recent years, the ADFH emerged as one of the most reputed Falcon Hospitals in the Gulf and is now considered the largest in the world.

"Our tourism programme has been very successful. It was rated 86 out of 100 by an international travel community website and ADFH is considered a 'must see' attraction in Abu Dhabi.

"This award is another outstanding achievement," said Dr Margit Muller, the director of ADFH.

Since the ADFH launched its tourism programme in 2007, the demand to visit the hospital has increased sharply.

Visitors are offered a unique and unforgettable experience of cultural tourism and eco-tourism.

Guided tours of the hospital are available in English, Arabic, French and German, twice daily from Sunday to Thursday.

An online booking system for visitors will be launched soon by the hospital on its website www.falconhospital.com.

8. Abu Dhabi Corniche mit dem Fahrrad

Direkt an der Strassenkreuzung zwischen dem Emirates Palace und der Strasse, die zur Marina Mall dem Heritage Village (Breakwater) fuehrt, findet sich auf der Ecke ein Fahrrad-Verleih
Dort kann man sich ein Fahrrad mieten und die 7 km lange Corniche und die Breakwater Promenade entlang radeln.

Preis - 20 DHS/fuer die 1. Std, jede weitere Stunde 10 DHS
40 DHS/Std fuer ein "Go-Kart" (4 Pers.)

Hallo alle zusammen!

Nachdem ich jetzt seit 4 Monaten in AD bin kann ich die Tipps von lennox etwas updaten.

zu 1. Die Moschee Öffnungszeiten sind richtig so.
Bitte beachtet, daß jede Frau eine Abbaya tragen muß die man am Eingang bekommt. Trägt man einen Rock oder ein knappes Top, kommt man am 1. Sicherheitspersonal nicht vorbei und der Mann ( sofern man einen dabei hat ) muß dann bis zum Eingang vor und eine Abbaya holen.
Männer mit kurzen Hosen bekommen eine Dishdasha.

zu 2. Qasr al Hosn
Ist zur Zeit NICHT geöffnet.

zu 3. Heritage Village
Laut Öffnungszeiten ist das Heritage Village auch vormittags geöffnet, wir sind da aber zweimal gewesen und die kleinen Souvenirlädchen oder auch die Handwerkerlädchen waren nicht geöffnet. Ab 17.00 Uhr ist dort immer was los und die Atmosphäre ist wirklich schön.

zu 8. Abu Dhabi Corniche
Der Strand ist zum Großteil fertig und wunderschön geworden. Er ist in verschiedene Bereiche eingeteilt. Gate 2 ist der Familiy Bereich ganz vorne ( Tipp : gegenüber parken und die Unterführung nehmen, ist mit Kindern sicherer)und Gate 5 und 6 ist der "Single - Bereich". Diese Bereiche kosten 10 Dirham für Erwachsene und 5 für Kinder. Es gibt auch noch die Möglichkeit Liegestühle mit Sonnenschirm zu mieten. ( Kosten 55 Dirham)
Die Gatenummern kann man an den Fähnchen erkennen.
Der Bereich bei den Restaurants ist kostenfrei.

Mich wuerde noch dieser 'Iranian Souq' interessieren - daneben soll auch der Fisch- und Gemuese-Markt liegen.

1 The Corniche
Abu Dhabi’s Corniche is a masterpiece of urban planning, and its six kilometres of walking and biking paths connect four gorgeous parks. Each park is themed; there is a Family Park with creative climbing structures, an Urban Park with a beautiful garden, a Lake Park, and a Formal Park, known for its architecture and maze. Bikes can be rented from the Hiltonia Club for dhs20 per day and there are several restaurants and cafes where you can sip a coffee while watching the city roll by.

2 Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque
Featuring 80 domes, more than 1,000 columns, 24 carat gold-plated chandeliers and the world largest hand-woven Persian carpet, this architectural work of art is a must for any visitor. The mosque is one of the few in the country open to non-Muslims, and free hour-long tours are available Sunday to Thursday at 10am. The mosque is closed to non-Muslims on Fridays. 3 Dhow Building at Al Bateen Wharf
Located in one of Abu Dhabi’s most affluent areas, the Bateen dhow yard is well worth a visit, with its evocative smells of freshly cut African and Indian teak. Craftsmen use traditional skills to build the dhows and racing hulls that can be seen in competitions off the Corniche. If it’s not too busy, the craftsmen will happily share the intricacies of their art. The yard is open every day except Friday, and the best time to visit is around 5pm.

4 Heritage Village
The picturesque Heritage Village is situated on the Breakwater and offers an interesting glimpse into the country’s past. The open museum presents traditional aspects of the traditional Bedouin way of life and includes a campfire with coffee pots, a goats’ hair tent, a well and a falaj irrigation system. Craftsmen demonstrating metal work, pottery and weaving an spinning are happy to share their skills. There’s also a small spice shop and a beautiful waterside restaurant. 5 Corniche Beach Park
The latest addition to the city’s renovated Corniche, the beach park is overwhelmingly popular with both residents and visitors. The 2km stretch of beach extends along Corniche Road from the Hilton Hotel to beyond Al Khaleej Al Arabi St, where the main entrance is located. There are plenty of lifeguards and showers and the park itself is incredibly clean. Try to visit during the week when it’s possible to snag one of the 170 beach umbrellas. Admission is a cheap and cheerful dhs5 for families and dhs10 for single males.

6 Gold Souk
Though not as large as the one in Dubai, the Gold Souk in Madinat Zayed is worth a visit for its garishly ostentatious wedding jewellery. Bring in your own design and the shops will make jewellery to order. If you need a small keepsake, you can have a necklace with your name in Arabic in silver or gold made in about a week. The back streets surrounding the Gold Souk are great for window shopping and the shops sell a bizarre mix of musical instruments, electrical appliances and knick-knacks.

7 Qasr Al Hosn
Qasr Al Hosn (also known as the Old Fort or the White Fort) is the oldest building in Abu Dhabi and dates back to 1793. Situated in the centre of Abu Dhabi, the fort has undergone a series of renovations over the years. Although there aren’t any guides, you can walk around the exterior and marvel at the incredibly high walls. The site is undergoing renovations, but you should still be able to get close enough to be amazed.

8 Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital
The Falcon Hospital has been treating falcons and other bird species for over ten years and now offers tours. The two-hour tours are the best way to get up close to the birds and learn about an important aspect of Emirati culture. Tours must be booked in advance by calling 02 575 5155 or visiting falconhospital.com. The tours cost dhs170 or visitors can opt for a more extensive three-hour tour that includes lunch and costs dhs220.

9 Kayak Tours Through The Eastern Mangroves
Until recently, the incredible mangrove forest lining Abu Dhabi Island was only accessible if you owned your own kayak. Thankfully, Noukhada Adventure Company (http://www.noukhada.ae) now offers a variety of eco-tours through this unique eco-system. The basic two-hour tours cost dhs150 per person, including kayak, paddle and life-jacket rental. Call 050 721 8928 for more information.

10 Emirates Palace
Emirates Palace is one of Abu Dhabi’s top cultural and entertainment centres. It stages several international music concerts each year, ranging from the annual Abu Dhabi Classics season (http://www.abudhabiclassics.com) to world-renowned pop artists Coldplay, The Killers and Elton John. Emirates Palace also hosts major art exhibitions that have featured the likes of Pablo Picasso. abudhabitourism.ae

der Fischmarkt ist wirklich klasse um fangfrischen Fisch günstig zu kaufen.

Beim Gemüse und Früchtemarkt bekommt man die frischere Ware als im Carrefour oder LuLu. Die Preise stehen überall dabei, sodaß man nicht übers Ohr gehauen wird ( naja, ein Local zahlt bestimmt weniger als ich, aber mit den Preisen kann ich gut leben). Es gibt da noch einen großen Dattelmarkt, den habe ich allerdings noch nicht getestet, da ich nicht so auf Datteln stehe und ich auch die Unterschiede nicht kenne.

Im Iranian Souk verkaufen sie Haushaltssachen, Alu-Schalen und Töpfe, Plastikregale usw. Ich denke das alles ist kein Ausflug nach AD wert, aber wenn man gerade hier ist kann man mal durchfahren.
Neben dem Iranian Souk gibt es noch die Blumenhändler, einer neben dem anderen, minds. 500 lang. Dort gibts Pflanzen, Blumen und Töpfe richtig günstig!

Ja, nach einem Monat Schnee hier in Deutschland auf jeden Fall.
Wir haben uns gersten " für Mai " denn neuen ADAC-Reiseführer (Dubai-Abu Dabi) gekauf. Jetzt können wir eure Angaben auf der Karte aufarbeiten.
